Answer: According to Oyekan (2013) academic and professional integrity are important in both scholarly world and professional life. Academic integrity is concerned with one acting in a responsible and honest manner in the scholarly world. Professional integrity is concerned with an individual adopting and acting consistently with values and moral principles of the society in the course of his or her work(Oyekan, 2013). Professional and academic integrity helps in ensuring that individuals develop the virtual of honesty and responsibility in the course of their work, either in school or professionally. In essence, academic and professional integrity helps in ensuring that people do not engage in cheating as their mean of success in life(Oyekan, 2013). My understanding before the course was that academic and professional integrity involves a person acting in an honesty way. I knew that a person is not supposed to cheat in his or her work, but always to remain honest, and present work that reflect his efforts and capabilities(McCuen, 2014). However, after learning about academic and professional integrity my understanding has improved, to include the perspective of acting in accordance with what is morally and socially acceptable in the society, while engaging in academic and professional life. One of the ways that I will apply academic integrity in my studies is ensuring that I do not cheat in my exams. Second, I will ensure that I do not copy ideas and work of others without properly citing them.
